Physical Appearance:
Coda has never been what one would call big. His whole life, he has been small and skinny. Despite puberty springing him up to a good height, he is still stick thin. The muscles he does possess, on his arms and chest, came from long hours of avoiding bullies by climbing trees, usually because of something he said to piss them off. His skin is a light tan year round, while his hair is a shaggy brown he refuses to cut or have styled any other way, much to his Uncle Yu's chagrin. High cheekbones and a straight, prominent nose come from his mother's side of the family, while his oval shaped ears and full mouth come from his father.
He has a single freckle on his left ear lobe that some mistake for a piercing at times, given its light color. A darker freckle stands just to the left of his adam's apple, which is noticeable most of the time given his clothing preferences. He prefers loose clothes that breathe; after all his running from bullies, he knows better than to wear movement restricting clothing. Cargo pants and tank tops are his preference for the summer months, switching only the tank tops for tee shirts and sweatshirts in fall and winter. His ensembles are always completed by white cotton socks and sneakers.
Though climbing trees as a kid roughened his palms, his fingers remain long, deft, and smooth, with well kept fingernails (for a teenage boy, anyway). Since he was a child, he has played the flute; the dedication he has put into his musical abilities has given him more than a few finger cramps over the years. But they have also made his hands strong and sure in most things. When playing the flute, a certain calm comes over Coda and he will tune out everything else until he is finished playing. During these times, it is nigh impossible to break his concentration; short of a death threat, Coda will neither hear nor respond to any comment made around him, even if it is shouted directly into his ear.
LET'S GET TO KNOW YOU BETTER ' '
Personality Description:
Unruly - Ever since he was a child, Coda has been, what his Uncle Yu would call, unruly. Instead of spending time studying to be a politician, like his Uncle would like, Coda prefers to run a muck outdoors. At his Uncle's home in Singapore, he would spend most of his day out back in a peach tree, playing his flute.
Stubborn - Coda is very set in his ways; if he doesn't want to do something, chances are he won't. The only things excluded from this list would be chores and school, though he wouldn't pass up the opportunity to get out of these.
Talented - Coda is a very talented musician. He's been playing the flute since his Uncle Yu bought him a wooden one at the age of four. It's not uncommon to see him playing his flute instead of doing chores or hanging out with friends.
Loner - Because of his predisposition to music, Coda is somewhat of a loner. Though he doesn't mind the occasional audience when playing his flute, he prefers to not be disturbed by people if they have something to say. Over the years, he has developed a way of tuning out all distractions, but it requires him to go into a trance like state of which it is very hard to knock him out of.
Smart mouth - Coda has had a smart mouth since he learned to speak. Whatever the various languages he is fluent in, one thing is for sure: his mouth will always get him into trouble. From bullies to an irate Uncle Yu, Coda's quick tongue is sharp, and he's pretty careless on how he uses it.

WELCOME TO MY LIFE ' '
Place of Origin:
Born: Montana
Raised: Singapore (culture)
Schooled: Connecticut
History:
Coda's story begins with his parents. His father, Harper Kwon, a United States senator from a small town in Montana, and a second generation Chinese immigrant, met Coda's uncle and guardian, Tang Yu, an ambassador from Singapore. Yu introduced Harper to his assistant, Maru. Harper and Maru fell in love almost instantly. Not long after they met, they began their whirlwind romance, much to poor Yu's chagrin. Six months later, the couple eloped, and Maru became pregnant. Nine happy months followed, with the lovers spending half the year in Singapore with Maru's family, and half in the states at Harper's home. Harper's only living relative was a younger sister, who was mean and cared more about her own life than that of her brother's. Needless to say, they avoided her.
The day came when Coda was born. It was a rather wet and stormy week, but the couple was still very buoyant. Yu, who had grown close to the little family over the past year and a half, had taken some personal time off to see the birth of his promised godchild. It was a long and strenuous labor, eventually resulting in a cesarean section. But the baby was born healthy, after twelve and a half hours of intense labor, and Maru and Harper could not have been happier. Yu arrived, and held his godson for the first time. No family had ever been happier.
But their happiness was not to last. Nine months after Coda was born, disaster struck the happy family. Harper, Maru, and baby Coda where on their way back from a New Year's Eve celebration when a drunk driver struck them head on. Maru was killed on impact, while Harper was trapped between the seats for over half an hour, struggling to hang on while EMS arrived on scene. When they finally came, Coda was screaming in the backseat, a small cut behind his ear, but otherwise unharmed. Harper begged the medical technicians to contact Yu, to tell him what had happened, and to make sure he took care of little Coda. After this demand, though, he slipped quickly into a coma and died shortly after on the way to the hospital.
Upon hearing about the death of his beloved friends, Yu rushed to the scene. He claimed Coda as his own, as Harper had wished, and returned to Singapore after the funeral.
Thus began Tang Coda's existence, and what fun it was. He and his Uncle Yu would travel to countless places; by the time he was seven, Coda had spent time in Africa, South America, the United States, and even Poland. When he was four, his uncle purchased a hand carved, wooden flute from a Brazilian street bazaar. Coda took to the instrument like a bird to wing. He practiced for hours everyday, to the detriment of his studies and interest in politics his uncle tried to ingrain in him. He would sit outside and play, making up tunes and performing for the native animals that would gather. At thirteen, he began going into trance-like states whenever he settled down to play his flute. It was nearly completely impossible to shake him out of it, though his uncle would spend countless, futile hours trying.
Coda's studies in politics began when he was very young, as well. His Uncle Yu would force him to sit and listen as a tutor taught him everything there was to know about being a great politician. Admittedly, before he discovered his musical passions, Coda was an enthusiastic pupil. Then again, he was also only four years old. Needless to say, his dream of becoming an ambassador like his uncle died shortly after his first flute came into his hands. Still, Yu was insistent, and for six more years, Coda was forced to sit through lectures on politics; only difference was he never retained much but how stuffy the room was.
He was twelve before he entered private school. His first day was a nightmare he'll never forget. In an all boys boarding school, where money is power and status is key to making it through alive, Coda, very quickly, discovered he was the underdog. His very first day, he was threatened, had his head shoved in a toilet, and then dumped into a garbage can. It became apparent he would have to keep his head down. Sadly, this was almost completely impossible. You see, over the years, Coda had developed what most know to be a smart mouth; his problem was that he never knew when to keep it shut.
But Coda eventually found a hiding place, somewhere no one could reach. Outside his dorm room window was a peach tree with a sturdy branch just grazing the sill. One day, after classes had ended and he had some down time, Coda took his flute, plucked up his courage, and climbed out on the branch. It held strong, and it wasn't long before Coda began playing his music out in the peach tree. Regrettably, he wasn't one known for his poise; a pair of irate squirrels ran past him, knocking him off balance and sending him tumbling to the ground below. Still, he continued to play his flute in the peach tree.
Here is where he discovered his power of hypnotism. After being chased by the main gang of school bullies that wanted his tongue torn out and wrapped around his throat, Coda ran into his room, locking the door behind him. Thinking the other boys would never get in, he began to relax, and climbed out into his tree, taunting the boys through the wall before he went. He began to play, going into his trance quickly. So quickly he didn't hear the boys had unscrewed the hinges of his door and busted it down. They were all ready to take him down as well, but, for some reason, when they heard the music of Coda's flute, they turned and left. When Coda returned to his room later, all he saw was his door on the floor, the screwdriver the gang had used, and the knife of the leader. It took him a few weeks to puzzle out why the boys had left.
The truth didn't come to him until his music teacher insisted he apply for the coveted Juilliard scholarship. Though only thirteen at the time, Coda finally agreed to do it when he showed up to his music class with a black eye; his instructor hinted at the chance of getting out of Connecticut and Brunswick School for Boys. Coda leaped at that idea, since his uncle refused to let him leave, despite his various complaints sent via letter, email, and even fax. The day of competition came, and Coda finally felt his nerves begin to frazzle. His only thoughts while getting up on stage were 'please give me this scholarship.' Then, he started to play. The judges, much like the boys who had been trying to hurt him, were mesmerized, not that Coda took much notice; he'd once again gone into his trance so as not to get nervous and make a mistake. It was only when he was finished and the judges, all in unison, said 'Welcome to Juilliard. You win the scholarship,' that Coda realized they were hypnotized. He looked down at his flute, and then back up at the judges, who all had the same, vacant expression on their faces. He snapped his fingers, thinking to wake them up, but it didn't work. So he blew a discordant note on his flute, thinking once more to snap them out of it, and, suddenly, they were back to normal.
A week after the competition, Coda received a letter from Pantheon Academy, explaining that he was one of the 8 Immortals incarnate, and that he could hypnotize people. They also said he was welcome to attend Pantheon Academy, which was located in the Olympic Peninsula. All Coda knew was it was on the other side of the US, and thus far away from Brunswick. As he eagerly began packing to leave, he received a call from Uncle Yu. Yu had gotten news that he'd been accepted at Juilliard with a full high school and college scholarship; he must have been very excited, since he'd called Coda personally. Coda had to explain, as diplomatically as possible, that he had lost interest in attending Juilliard, and had been offered a position in another school on the Olympic Peninsula. When Yu blustered and threw out his infamous 'do you know what an opportunity you're giving up' tirade, Coda tried to explain about his powers, and why the competition had not been fair. Yu, being a sensible man, thought Coda was full of it, and he insisted, again, that Coda attend Juilliard.
"I'll make you a deal," Coda said over the phone. "I'll come back to Singapore for Spring Break. If I can convince you that I can hypnotize people with my flute, I go to Pantheon Academy; if I still can't convince you, I'll go to Juilliard." Yu agreed to the terms of the agreement, and, one month later, Coda, much relieved to merely be away from bullies for a week, came home. Uncle Yu was surly as ever, but was eager to see his godson humiliate himself by trying to hypnotize the household staff. Coda, being the smart ass and little hellion he was, began to play his flute, thinking about how he wanted the staff to rearrange his uncle's room to look like his had before he left; in other words, a mess; and then act like wild monkeys for three hours and twenty seven minutes. Yu, seeing his staff act in the precise manner his godson has described, finally relented, and agreed to let him attend Pantheon Academy after he finished his last semester at Brunswick. This was fine with Coda, since he now knew how to control the bullies.

ROLEPLAYING SAMPLE ' '
Florescent lights blinked overhead, the air conditioning wheezed and coughed about the heads of everyone in the Gym. Sweat beaded the faces of the girls of Orange Star High as they glared at the opposing team. The last of the game and it was six to six, game point. Number seven took her position to serve, her dark red curls held back by an orange scrunchie. Alice gave the ball a test bounce before throwing it high into the air, hitting it with an echoed slap. The volleyball soared over the net, and the game resumed.
Toya's liquid brown eyes lingered on a cloud passing in the sky before he took his position as goalie. Usually he played center, but the teams actual goalie had a pulled hamstring. A whistle sounded, as the sound of colliding leather and body filled the air. Grunts from his opponents brought a grin to his face, knowing his team liked to kick.
"Oh Toya our game was so intense, you should have seen the look on Golden Valley's faces when Ally spiked!" Alice exclaimed, the thrill of another win still fresh in her mind. Without even a glance at Toya, she knew her twins face was as passive as ever, unchanged by her happiness. "How was your game T?" she rolled her eyes, knowing they would have won. Ever since Toya became Captain, the soccer team did nothing but win! "We won." he said as unemotional as his demeanor. Toya had emotion, it was just buried underneath his 'tough guy' act.
Toya looked down at his baby sister. He really was happy for her win, but they won all the time, nothing new. The twins made a right at the corner, the Capsule Corporation building just a few blocks away. Toya raised an eyebrow as he caught his sister's wide smile. "So you and Trunks....?" It was a rhetorical question, his only response a whack at the back of his head. A genuine grin appeared, revealing dimples on Toya's face. Alice looked reproachful "So, I think Trunks' kind of cute, I mean even though i've known him forever....it's not like we're related." her voice rang with defense as she countered "What about Bulla?" Toya shook his head solemly, his face hard. "I told you, I don't want to ruin our friendship even if that means not telling her how I feel." Alice rolled her eyes with disbelief "Right T, whatever you say." They had just reached the Capsule Corporation building when the sound of familiar voices drifted by...Trunks and Bulla fighting again. And to think they weren't twins.
Both twins shook their heads in mock disapprovement as they rose simutaniously into the sky, flying over the obstacles barring their way. As her feet touched ground, Alice broke into a quick sprint, wrapping her slender arms around Trunks' in a loose hold before exclaiming "If there's a fight, I get Trunks as my partner!" She glared jokingly as if daring anyone to object before letting her arms drop.
Toya hovered in the air before lightly touching the soft Earth below. He took calm measured steps to Bulla's side. "So, what was the debate on this time?"
