STRIKE A POSE ' '

Physical Appearance: Vanessa is a child born from a melting pot of races. She's of English, African, Indian (South Asian), Mahona and Cherokee descent. The fates must have been smiling upon her because the resulting combination is extraordinary. She's one of those girls who would be given a second glance anywhere, thanks to her sultry and exotic features.

Her shoulder length hair takes on a very dark brown color which could easily be mistaken for black. When the sunlight hits her, however, it's pretty apparent what the color really is. It's naturally straighter than a board but looks equally beautiful when set into curls or waves. Beneath her thin eyebrows lie twin hazel eyes that often take on a wistful, dreamy look. She has a long nose with a narrow bridge. Her lips are full and dark brown, accenting the paradoxical seductive/innocent aura she gives.

Vanessa has a springy gait, fit for any musical. Her positive energy radiates from her posture. However, when she's in her daydreaming state, she tends to sweep her hands in long arcs while her irises seemingly adopt deeper dark coffee hues. Fashion is not an issue to this girl. She wears anything as long as its comfortable which can range from a tee and jeans to a summery dress.

Personality Description: Although Vanessa's quite the stunner, she's apparently oblivious to the fact and pretty much everything else. She's the perfect example to show how one can get her head stuck in the clouds. She's prone to spacing out outside conversations and can enter bombastic daydreams. As it is, she can't help but blurt the ditziest things at hilariously, the most inopportune moments. Although this may offend people, Vanessa in reality has only good intentions. She will be quick to apologize if she realizes that she has said something stupid again.

However, Vanessa shines when she converses with people. This seems to be her greatest strength and can even overcome most of her flaws through it. She expresses genuine concern and compassion to other people, especially when she senses hurt or despair. Her gentle body language, soothing words and sudden flashes of lucidity make her a great advice-giver and shoulder to cry on. In short, she's the best friend anyone would want. These traits accent her attractiveness, but unfortunately she's too clueless to take hints from boys.

On the other hand, Vanessa's inquisitiveness and curiosity can sometimes go too far. People who aren't that open will find her meddling and annoying. You can't blame her though for asking too many questions. For one, she's genuinely interested in helping people solve their problems. Moreover, it's a sign that someone's actually paying attention to you.

As a result, Vanessa's charming and charismatic, although lacking the outwardly signs confidence, save for her bright smile. She works well in a team, choosing to be a follower rather than a leader. She's also good at boosting morale by dropping a compliment or two. You can spot her a mile away; her voice is usually the loudest in a pack of people.

History:
Vanessa comes from a tight knit family of warm and hospitable people. Her father and mother met in the Canadian embassy wherein the former was a delegate from South Africa while the latter was an employee there. It was the typical love-at-first-sight story which ended up in a blissful marriage and three girls.

Like most Pantheon Academy students, Vanessa's uniqueness was apparent even since birth. Even the nurses in the maternal ward of Ontario State Hospital gasped in awe as they viewed her beautiful face for the first time. And just like the goddess, Vanessa's beauty pierced the souls of the people she met and often left them with conflicting emotions. Naturally, she was the prettiest girl in the block and in her school.

Growing up, Vanessa never had a difficult time making friends. In fact, her personality made her a natural people magnet. There was something about her which caused them to gravitate towards her. It goes without saying that she attracted a lot of enemies also. Of course, they only hated her because she seemed so perfect. Despite this, Vanessa was never involved in an incident. Perhaps her detractors were too afraid of the power she held within and over the people around her.

In junior high, Vanessa met her worst enemy yet - Jezebel Adams. Jezi was the queen bee of the school - head cheerleader, honor student, batch president and the head sister of an underground sorority. She didn't pay attention, however, to Vanessa until her brother, Philip fell madly in love with the pretty newcomer. Disgusted, Jezi set plans to make Vanessa's life a living hell. Jezi pretended to invite Vanessa to the exclusive sorority and Vanessa, being hopelessly clueless, accepted without any doubts. For her first task for her initiation, Vanessa was to obtain silver rings from two unnamed sisters. Not knowing what to do, Vanessa befriended almost everyone in her class and told them of her worries. This was when her powers first manifested. Her feelings of confusion emanated from herself and moved the class to pity. The next day, she was able to identify both sisters, thanks to the efforts of her classmates.

Needless to say, Jezi was furious. The ring task normally took weeks to complete while Vanessa did it in a single day. Too angry to go with the rest of the initiation, Jezi confronted Vanessa in the school cafeteria. Philip, hearing the high pitched curses of his sister, interfered and defended Vanessa. The whole student body was reduced to silence when Vanessa accurately diagnosed Jezi's envy as a defense mechanism for her insecurities with her image. Jezi's jaw dropped in shock as Vanessa enumerated the various surgeries Jezi had to undergo from an accident, which scarred her face for years. This was the second time Vanessa used her ability. Jezi left the scene, bursting into tears.

When Vanessa arrived home that day, she received a letter from the Pantheon, explaining her sudden ability to understand human emotion. She immediately left for the Olympic Peninsula, leaving Philip to regret his failure to confess his love for her.

• Jezebel's brother, Philip fell in love with Vanessa and even defended her from his very own sister. :: Philip is a symbol for Eros/Cupid, the god of love who acted the same way in the Psyche myth. Philip comes from "philo" which means love.
  
• Vanessa was able to complete her sorority tasks through the help of her classmates. :: Psyche got her happy ending through the help of various gods and animals.
  
• Vanessa is empathetic both power-wise and personality-wise :: Psyche was the goddess of the soul and therefore could understand the human spirit.
  
• Vanessa fears the dark and dying alone. :: Psyche's quests included going to the Underworld and caves. She was also cursed by Aphrodite to never have a husband.
