Jalileh Tiram Elika Khanyafar
Strange, Spacey, Unreadable

BACK TO BASICS ' '
Full Name: Jalileh Tiram Elika Khanayar
Significance of Name: Ereshkigal’s name means, “Great Lady under the Earth.” Jalileh means “Great”. Tiram means, “Lady”. Elika means “Earth”. Altogether, Jalileh Tiram Elika means “Great Lady of the Earth”, which is mostly the same as Ereshkigal. I have no idea what Khanyfar means, I just like it.
Nickname(s): Lileh
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Orientation: Straight
Grade: Junior
Celeb you're using: Elnaz Shakerdoost
Deity: Ereshkigal - Sumerian
Title of your deity: Queen of the Underworld
STRIKE A POSE ' '
Physical Appearance: Jalileh generally dresses rather conservatively, just because that’s how she was raised. However, that doesn't necessarily mean she wears grandma clothes all the time. She dressed quite fashionably due to her parents wealth. Her mother loves to dote on her remaining daughter and regularly sends Jalileh new clothes everyday. However, Jalileh doesn't usually like to go shopping herself and tends to rewear clothes at least three times before she goes onto a new outfit.
She normally wears the hijab to cover her hair, which usually comes in a variety of colors for her. Should she take off the hijab, and really just her roommates will probably ever see this, she had very long flowing ebony hair that reaches about her rear. Her sister Minoo's, who's hair is slightly singed, begged her to keep it long and thus she hasn't cut it since she was about ten.
She's always watched what she ate, preferring to stay away from meat if at all possible, though not for any hippie-save-the-animals reason. After seeing the dead, one kind of looses their appetite for meat, especially after seeing meat in it's various states of decay. It has had a positive effect on Jalileh's body and, when one can make out her curves, they can see a cute svelte frame.
If it's possible for Jalileh to be self-conscious about anything, it would be her cheeks. While the rest of her is fairly fit, for some reason the baby fat from her cheeks has never quite gone away. They're very pinchable and, while most people think it's cute, she hates them.
Jalileh has cupid's bow lips that stay a the color of pomegrantes. Since she wasn't allowed to wear make-up in Iran, she now wears lipstick every chance she gets. It accentuates her lips and, she hopes, slims down her cheeks. Her skin is the color of cafe au lait. Unfortunately for Jalileh, her sister got most of the good genes where complexion was concerned and Jalileh has some very light scarring on her cheeks from acne. However, she's become quite proficient with cover-up and people rarely notice this unless she just woke up.
Jalileh's eyes are the most striking thing about her. Inside they seem a hazel brown, dark like mud of a river after the flood. But in the light, the green in her hazel eyes really comes to life. They seem to glow almost, peering right into a person at their soul.
Overall, Jalileh seems to look constantly sad or upset. It's not really her fault and she's not really that sad. It's just her genes. It's not uncommon for people to ask her, "What's wrong?" because of it.
LET'S GET TO KNOW YOU BETTER ' '
Personality Description: Jalileh is a strange one. Hanging out with dead people all the time tends to do that to a person.
On the one hand, when you get to know her, Jalileh is a very sweet, smart person and a very good listener. She prefers to listen to people talk about themselves as opposed to talking about herself and her life. Usually, she's just an intermediary between the dead and the living anyway, so she's developed a habit of listening and loving people's stories after awhile. She doesn't really think she herself is very interesting, even if she is Queen of the Damned.
On the other hand, Jalileh is very hard to read and tends to come off very creepy when the mood strikes her right. Most of the time, people will see her supposedly talking to herself when in actuality she's talking to the posse of ghosts that always seem to surround her. It's not unusual for her to go up to a stranger and say, "You know your Uncle Vinny? He says that he hid the will under his matress before he hung himself." Expect a lot of this and to be visited by dead relatives you may not want around. Sometimes she'll describe the ghosts to people, such as what state they're in. It can be pretty off-putting and Jalileh usually doesn't understand why people suddenly run away from her very suddenly.
Since Jalileh doesn't really talk about herself, it's hard to read her. She's a bit spacey she'll talk about random weird subjects one moment and then about how one's cousin Murray says it was the colon cancer that killed him, not the ham-sandwich. Since she hasn't really had any non-dead friends, she's not sure how to interact with people and will usually just say whatever is on her mind a the moment.
Jalileh isn't without a personality however, she's just never been asked to show it before. Or at least, no one has taken an interest in it. Jalileh is probably just naturally goofy and enjoys doing weird things that normal people don't understand, such as yelling for no reason than to hear your own voice.

- Weird
- Talks to "herself"
- Tends to speak before she thinks

Fears: Unexpectedly meeting the ghosts of the rest of her family.
Goal: Eventually help her friends cross over.
Power/Ability: Medium- Jalileh can speak to, hear, see and, in some cases, touch spirits of the deceased and otherworld. She can’t control them or create them to do bidding, as one can in necromancy, but she can befriend them and thus gently suggest that they do her bidding instead. She can also see non-human entities. Non-human entities here means "demons" or, in Jalileh's case, "djinn" though they're not the stereotypical fire-n-brimstone demons or genie-in-a-lamp djinn most people think of. They're just not human, or animal, or anything of the earth. However, though she can see and speak to them, she prefers not too because they're rude and mean, having no concept of how frail humans are. She can also gain abilities (generally, mortal) from humans she can see and allow to inhabit her from time to time.
Necromancy- As a goddess of the underworld, Ereshkigal had domain over the dead. Jalileh has that same reign.
Sublimation- Ereshkigal was a pretty scary goddess. Seeing a giant black smoke monster come at you is pretty damn scary.
Dimensional Transportation- Ereshkigal once locked her sister Ishtar in her domain, a different dimension from the other Sumerian gods. Jalileh can likewise lock others in her underworld.
Side note: Jalileh is followed around by her sister, Minoo's, spirit and a djinn/demon named Rash. Minoo is just a regular dead human, but Rash is a non-human entity (she calls him 'he' because he acts more like a boy in Jalileh's opinion, though he's technically an 'it'). He doesn't do the posession thing (he thinks it's gross being inside a human, according to Jalileh), but he does like to play tricks on people and blame Jalileh for it. While she knows why Minoo follows her around, she has no idea why Rash does and rather wishes he'd just go away.
WELCOME TO MY LIFE ' '
Origin: Tehran, Iran
History: Jalileh’s family is a bit odd. Her father, Nouri Khanyafar, was an oil tycoon in Iran, his family inheriting the land under the Shah and kissing enough butts that he was allowed to keep his land under this new government. Nouri’s land was worth so much that he’s one of the wealthiest oil tycoons in the Middle East. Jalileh’s mother, Ara Khanyafar, was the great-granddaughter of the former Shah and technically a princess, though this means little in Iran since the Shah had more grandkids than one could shake a stick at. However, it did give the added bit of royal money to Nouri and Ara’s bank account and the two were extremely well off, among the top wealthy people in Iran and most of the Middle East, rivaling even those of Europe and North America.
Jalileh was born in Tehran, Iran. She was a twin and born with her younger brother by two-minutes, Shahrooz. The pair grew up in a house that was more akin to a palace than an actual house. They never had wanted anything since they more than readily received it upon request. They were always well fed, well clothed, and well educated. Jalileh’s father believed that both his children should have the best education money could afford and, thus, the twins were extremely smart. They had the top of the line education and Jalileh was taught most of the major languages in use, English being one of them.
However, Jalileh always sensed that her parents held sadness in their hearts. Though they refused to talk about it, Jalileh felt that they were keeping things secret from her and her twin.
That started to change when Jalileh was about six. She met a girl in the house, a fourteen year old pretty girl who looked a lot like Jalileh. She had very long straight ebony hair that was semi-hidden under an askance hijab. The girl had gorgeous emerald eyes that gleamed like jewels though they were always sad. Her skin was a lovely olive color and nearly flawless. Her lips were full and lightly colored with some sort of lip gloss. She was bit taller than Jalileh, though that was only because she wore heeled boots. She smelled like jasmine and sulfur, a strange combination Jalileh realized at the time. But, this girl was different. She wasn’t quite… normal. From her left side, protruding from her ribs was a piece of jagged metal. Crimson rivers of blood poured from the wound, but she didn’t seem to notice it. Being just a kid, Jalileh thought it was odd, but she also thought it was rude to ask her friend about it. She did, however, ask the girl what her name was and she replied, “Minoo.”
One day, while Jalileh was playing with the girl, Ara came in and stared at Jalileh for awhile. Jalileh didn’t notice and kept playing with her new friend. After a time, Ara asked, “Jalileh habibi, who are you talking to?” Jalileh replied, “Minoo.” Ara went ghostly white, but she asked, “Minoo? Who told you that name?” Jalileh responded, “She did! My friend!” Upon further questioning, Ara asked what the girl looked like and Jalileh gave her a detailed description, since Minoo was sitting right next to her. She then asked her mother, “Madaar, she’s sitting right here! Look!” But Ara couldn’t see her.
Nouri and Ara’s first daughter, Minoo, was about fourteen when she died in a bombing. Due to the troubled state of Iran, this wasn’t altogether unheard of, though it was tragic. Jalileh and her twin brother were newborns at the time and were unaware of their sister’s existence due to their parents’ non-existent desire to talk about her. But they had never forgotten their green-eyed first daughter and now, here she was, talking and playing with Jalileh. Nouri and Ara, not sure how Jalileh had found out about her sister, were both amazed and horrified.
This wasn’t the last time she ever saw a spirit. From that day on, a bunch of dead people came through, asking Jalileh questions and talking with her. They were in various states of decay and Jalileh began to be immune to that sort of violence until it was no longer an issue. Jalileh soon became closer with the dead than she did anyone else. Often, she would be talking with them and conversing. The dead were much more fun than the living and much more humble towards Jalileh, though she couldn’t understand why. She never abused their affections, however, and remained humble towards them in return.
That was until Rash showed up. One day, when she was thirteen, a thing showed up. It wasn’t like any of the spirits she had seen before. It smelled heavily of sulfur and always made the room way too hot. And it liked to bug Jalileh. It would keep her up late at night, doing nothing but poke her in the forehead. Or, it would pick on her younger brother in such a way that Jalileh would look like the culprit. Or it would run around screaming while Jalileh tried to study. Or it would yank down her hijab in the middle of a public place. Or it would trip soldiers patrolling the streets, causing Jalileh to run for her life due to her supposed harming an officer. Rash enjoyed making Jalileh’s life miserable, yet he never physically hurt her like non-human entities tend to do. Jalileh one day grew sick of it and demanded why he was following her around. His response was “just because”. From that day on, Rash had yet to go away, though he occasionally runs errands for Jalileh, admitting that he has a crush on the Queen of the Underworld, though Jalileh thinks he was just messing with her. She also had no idea what he meant by Queen of the Underworld, nor would be tell her. Instead, he mostly just laughed or swore at her in Persian.
After awhile, Jalileh’s parents became worried about their daughter, as she became more aloof from the living and would frequently, in their eyes, talk to herself. They tried to find therapy for her, but she never stayed at one psychologist for very long. In fact, most were too creeped out by her, as she would frequently ask, “Who’s Afasar? And why is her nose caved in?” only to find out that it was the shrink’s dead mother. Medications didn’t work either, mostly because Rash would get a hold of them and either hide them or used them to drug random guests’ food. Her parents became worried because, as semi-devout Muslims, they weren’t supposed to fall in with this sort of thing.
One day, when a guest named Mr. Kazimi came by to visit, Jalileh finally proved to her parents that she was the real deal. The man was a supposed well known expert in Mediums and psychics, showing how desperate her parents were getting. He asked Jalileh a series of questions about the entities around her. Since he was also being followed by entities, she answered them quite easily. However, she also threw in a curve-ball and started asking him about a little girl named Ziba. She started telling him, via the little girl, that she was alright now and that all she wanted from him was that her doll be placed on her grave because she missed it. Since there was no way Jalileh could have known this, Mr. Kazimi burst into tears since the girl was his daughter. He proclaimed that Jalileh was the real deal.
When Jalileh was about sixteen, a member from a special school showed up and had a chat with her parents. They claimed that their daughter was gifted and thus had been accepted to a special school for others that had similar unique abilities. At first they were skeptical and needed awhile to think it over. However, after looking over the school’s outstanding record and top of the line education recommendations, they agreed to allow their daughter to attend school in the states.
Privately and once she arrived, the staff told Jalileh that she was actually a reincarnation of the Sumerian and Babylonian goddess Ereshkigal, one of the oldest deities of death in the world, older even than the famous Olympians or their elders, the Titans. While Jalileh has her doubts about this, she goes along with it anyway and starts her first semester as a junior, Minoo and Rash happily in tow.
CONNECTION TO THE MYTH ' '
- Ereshkigal was a twin to a boy, though the eldest. So is Jalileh.
- Ereshkigal, as the ruler of the underworld, was extremely wealthy. So are Jalileh and her family, making her one of the wealthiest students in school, if not in the top three.
- Ereshkigal’s beautiful sister, Ishtar/Inanna, technically died when she entered Ereshkigal’s realm and Ereshkigal kept her sister hostage. Jalileh’s beautiful sister, Minoo, is dead and is trapped as a ghost, currently “haunting” Jalileh, so she’s kind of trapped in Jalileh’s realm.
- As Queen and ruler of the underworld, Ereshkigal was the supreme ruler of the dead and undead creatures. Jalileh is a medium and currently is the “supreme ruler” over ghosts and non-human entities that come to annoy her in the middle of the night.
- Ereshkigal had a husband, named Gugalana, that did her bidding in the underworld. Jalileh has a non-human entity named Rash that will, occasionally if he feels like it, do her bidding in the real world because he has a crush on her.
- Ereshkigal was the judge of the Underworld, in addition to being it's ruler, judging cases and punishments. Jalileh likes to listen to people's stories and problems, then advises what they should do about the problem.
