Physical Appearance:
Dylan is athletic. He’s fairly tall at 6’5, with muscular arms and legs. He’s not a meat head, but he does like to work out, especially lifting weights, which gives him a strong build. He’s a jock, through and through, and he walks like one, with more of a strut than anything. He doesn’t care much about clothes. His normal outfit consists of a pair of jeans, sneakers, and an old t-shirt or football jersey.
He’s got a rather long face, and is normally clean shaven, more because he just isn’t that hairy than because of any meticulous personal hygiene routine. Dylan has hazel eyes that normally look bemused beneath his thick eyebrows. He’s got full lips for a guy, and his mouth is normally upturned in a smirk. He keeps his hair short, since that’s the easiest way to manage it, and is currently sporting a short Mohawk.
LET'S GET TO KNOW YOU BETTER ' '
Personality Description:
Dylan is a smart ass. He always has a sarcastic comment or wise crack ready. Dylan is that kid in the back of the class, smarting off about the material. He's a smart kid, and while he thinks class is a waste of time, he gets decent grades. He could be a straight A student, if he cared to put the work in.
Most people perceive Dylan as lazy, but that’s not it at all. He just doesn’t waste his time or energy on things he doesn’t see as important. When he wants to be, he’s a very hard worker. He’s tough, and fiercely loyal to his friends and family, although it takes a while for him to make friends, since his natural instinct is to push people away. But once people get past his prickly exterior, he’s a friend for life. Dylan hates liars, and he hates to lie. As such, he tells the truth pretty much all the time.

WELCOME TO MY LIFE ' '
Origin: Long Island, NY
History:
Dylan was born on Long Island to Dick and Janie Murphy. His childhood was for the most part uneventful. He played soccer and Little League as soon as he could, and he idolized the New York Yankees and the Jets. In all, he was an average boy. When he was 8, things started to change. Janie found out that Dick, who had worked a lot ever since Dylan could remember, was actually cheating with his secretary, and had been with a string of other women for years. Or at least he had been, until he lost his job several months ago for stealing from the company. What he had been claiming were his paychecks for the past few months had actually been stolen money he’d been saving, just so he didn’t have to come clean to his wife. They tried marriage counseling, but it didn’t work. Janie found out after about 6 months of trying to make things work that when Dick said he was “job hunting” he was actually sleeping with his girlfriend. Well, Janie wasn’t one to be lied to (more than once), and when she found out, she kicked Dick out; leaving her broke, with a growing boy and no child-support.
At the time, Dylan didn’t know any of this. He just knew that Daddy had been lying to him and Mommy. But Dick’s lies weren’t exactly new to Dylan. Dylan had been striving for his dad’s attention for years, begging him to come to his games, or spend time with him on the weekends. And while Dick always swore he would come to this event at school or take Dylan to that home Yankees game, it never happened. By 8, Dylan had lost count of how many times he’d been stuck waiting when Dick had promised to pick him up for pizza after school. Ever since the Big Lie that ended up their destroying his family, Dylan has hated liars. But at the same time, he does not like answering questions, especially about his family. For the most part, he tells the truth, but you have to press him to get a straight answer sometimes.
After a quick and painful divorce, in which Dick decided any custody of Dylan was too much, Janie and Dylan moved into a small apartment. Janie worked had to support herself and her son, struggling to make ends meet. Dylan knew how hard it was for her, and tried to take care of her, after his dad’s betrayal. But Dylan didn’t exactly make things easy for her. He was always getting into trouble at school for smarting off, and for his small business ventures, which the teachers always frowned upon. As one of the stars on his junior high (and high school) football team, he attracted quite an entourage, but he kept most of them at a distance, having learned from his dad that people can’t be trusted. Only a few of his teammates got past his defenses, through a mixture of perseverance and jokes.
When he was 12, he began showing signs of a strange gift. Dylan had been poking a stick at a kid from his rival school's football team, when the kid decided he'd had enough. Dylan hadn't realized the kid's friends were nearby, and soon he was out-numbered. Never having been one to fight a losing battle, he high tailed it out of there. But the kids kept on his tail. Wishing he could just take off, he suddenly felt a strange feeling. He was shrinking...and becoming lighter...and the ground was falling away. Dylan had become a bird. Landing in an alley a few blocks from his home, Dylan was freaked out. He didn't know how to change back. Luckily for him, all he had to do was think about it, and he was back to his human self...although he was naked- his clothes had been left behind with the boys.
Since then, he played around with his gift. Dylan used it for his own means, sneaking into places as a mouse or insect, taking what he wanted, whether it was money or booze. He knew it was wrong, but hey, he'd lived long enough just barely making ends meet. By taking a little here, and a little there, mostly from places he knew it wouldnt be missed, Dylan was able to keep himself quite well. He was even able to sneek some of his money into his mom’s wallet when he thought she wasn’t looking. And he lived quite happily through the first two years of high school, until some representatives from the Pantheon approached him and his mom. They told him that he was a reincarnation of the Greek god Proteus, and they invited him to their school. Jumping at the opportunity, his mom made him go, hoping that the academy would offer him an education than the New York Public School System.
CONNECTION TO THE MYTH ' '
-born on Long Island, just like Proteus lived on the island Pharos
-Always tells the truth, since he hates lies because of his dad, like Proteus has to tell the truth if caught
-Doesn't like questions, people have to corner him to get a straightforward answer, like people had to catch Proteus to get an answer
-Strong and athletic; I assume Proteus had to be rather strong, since to get an answer from him, you had to wrestle him
-Clever; again, I assume Proteus would have been clever, as you had to catch him before you could ask him anything
-The power of Instantaneous Informative Gain relates to Proteus’s ability to answer questions. Most sources say Proteus predicted the future, but that doesn’t really make sense- in The Odyssey, he does not tell Menelaus the future, he tells him things that have already happened, and answers all the questions he asks. Therefore, I thought it made more sense if he had the power to gain knowledge quickly, to answer questions, than to prophesize
-Hard working AND Lazy; Proteus was the “shepherd” for Poseidon’s seals, which required a good deal of work, however at the same time, he naps every day on Pharos, which is how he is caught
