Time stopped as Jason entered the room. Despite the fact that all eyes were on him, he embodied an endearing shyness, avoiding eye contact and speaking only in muted whispers. His smile was easy if subdued, and his wavy brown hair shook from side to side as he made his way down the center aisle of the classroom, lurching slightly with his hands in his pockets. The appearance of his eyes was a rare treat, their icy blue a pleasing addition to his pale complexion and dark hair.

• Overall history[/color] | Here’s how she remembers it and she remembers it detail for detail. She was born in pain, lived in pain, died in pain and was again reborn in pain. She remembers it vividly and without flaw, though it’ll be shortened simply for lack of time, space and willingness for those to read.
Anne wasn’t always Anne. She lived at a time when gods walked the earth and magic was the norm. She came into this world burning, the smell of incense, no, burning wood in the air, heavy and thick in her nostrils. It was the plants of the earth, born of the earth’s body but shaped by men’s hands, that made her, made her soft skin, her blonde hair and gave her knowledge, a knowledge the Welsh Magicians couldn’t possibly comprehend she knew. They made her from the flowers of broom, the flowers of meadowsweet, and the pollen of oak.
Meadowsweet, lovely, delicate, soft and subtle, was to represent what a good woman was supposed to be, the woman wanted for Lleu, the woman the magicians Gwydion and Math thought a perfect woman should be. Meadowsweet would make her graceful, refined and elegant. It was supposed to be symbolic of her harmonious union with Lleu, a man she didn’t know, a man she was being created for, a man she was to honor and cherish until she grew old and he took more of an interest in her handmaids then that maid made for he. They forgot that meadowsweet was also the flower of funerary rites, found in the graves of the Celtic race’s burial sites. She was supposed be honorable, a commemoration and gentle acknowledgement of fine attributes of the human soul.
She was also created from the essence of the Broom flower. The name is no coincidence. The branches of the Broom bush are perfect for sweeping, though not while the yellow blossoms are standing at attention, for the mortals waited till the flowers dropped off. They believed sweeping with Broom branches leads to very nasty luck when the flowers were still attached. Because of its handy household uses, the Broom flower included a sense of orderliness, cleanliness, tidiness, a symbol for a good house-keeper. Its bright yellow flowers are likened to the gold of the radiating sun, conjuring attributes of light, energy, vitality and warmth. The Broom flower was also supposed to hint at humility and resourcefulness; for Broom is a simple bush...its needs are few, living fine on its own without much tending. It was to make her happy with the simple things in life. Broom flower was a symbol of the heart, connected to humbleness. The Broom is a bright reminder of how simple values can go a long way to balancing the heart and the same was expected of her.
Oak was their folly. It wasn’t the flower of the Oak, as some say, but its pollen. When Math and Gwydion created her, they used the pollen of the Oak as an animation agent, back when the Oak gave such gifts to man. The Oak was a symbol of life, strength, wisdom and stability. Druidic lore held the Oak as a mammoth symbol of power, influence and considered it a chieftain among the sacred clan of trees. For her, the Oak was a symbol of integrity, as the Oak grows fine, strong and tall, proud and powerful. Ideally, the Oak pollen breathed through her nostrils would instill faith, long life and fidelity to Lleu, but they were wrong. They forgot that with integrity comes the ability to make one’s own destiny. We may be fashioned from certain elements, and that which creates us may have the finest intentions - but in the end - we are the choosers of our path.
These plants gave her life and the men’s rough hands shaped her soft body, placing their dirty fingers where they pleased in order to assure their choice in king, their Lleu, the boy abandoned and cursed by his mother because of the rape he symbolized. Breathing the pollen into her nostrils, she burned as her skin changed, as her body solidified as she was born and air filled her lungs. All her nerves fired off and the pain, seemingly endless pins and needles in her skin, caused her to scream to life just as a newborn babe screams its way kicking and screaming into this world of theirs, of the mortals.
She was instantly given to that man, Lleu, to defy his mother’s curse. She wasn’t human and she was never allowed to forget for, should she, it would make Arianrhod’s curse valid and Lleu could not ascend to his kingship. For it was through she, then called Bloddeuwedd, that allowed him kingship, a symbolic nod from the earth that he was meant to be king, overriding the raped star queen’s curse. Lleu took Bloddeuwedd to his bed and did things, things she didn’t understand, making her no longer a maiden but his wife. From there, she was locked away in a tower, where it was assumed, based on the elements she was made from, she would be content to sew and talk nonsense with hand maids, waiting to bear a son, not a daughter, waiting to grow old in this cage of stone, away from the earth that had given her life, waiting to die, shriveled and old.
Then there was Gronw. Her husband had left on one of his many hunting trips and she was left with the castle, as she had grown accustomed to, a flower withering. Gronw, a lost hunter, came and souk shelter for the night. He was beautiful, dark and enchanting, his eyes like stars and his hair the color of the blue-black night. Gronw was equally taken with the beautiful Lady, her Broom flower colored hair, she Meadowsweet soft skin and her demeanor, her Oak demeanor of life and strength that she had begun to forget even in herself. She took him to her bed and felt a love she had never felt for her husband, a freedom she had never tasted before and she felt alive.
When Gronw said he must leave should her husband return, since he was after all a man with all their fickleness, she encouraged him and bid him stay. She alone knew how to kill the man called her husband, the man who took her only because she gave him the Welsh Kingdom. Bloddeuwedd had ‘tricked’ Lleu, as the Mabinogi recorded, into revealing how he may be killed, since he could not be killed during the day or night, nor indoors or outdoors, neither riding nor walking, not clothed and not naked, nor by any weapon lawfully made. He revealed that he could only be killed at dusk, wrapped in a net with one foot on a cauldron and one on a goat and with a spear forged for a year during the hours when everyone is at mass. She divulged this information to Gronw, hoping to make him her king for only his fierce spirit matched that which she thought had died.
The night he left, they made love one last time. His soft touch, her soft kisses… she remembered it all for it was the last time she would see him again before he would be a king.
And he failed. His spear flew straight and true, but Lleu, the fosterling of magicians with the blood of the star queen flowing through his veins, changed to an eagle and made it back to his conspiring magicians where they returned him to his human form.
They didn’t know this. At the time, she believed that she and Gronw had been successful, had taken the kingdom, but Lleu was not dead. They were happy though and lived together as husband and wife, be it in emotion only. They were happy and she was happy, for the man was a hunter, a woodsman, and together they lived outside, wild in the forest that bore her, returning to the castle only for sustenance and a change of clothes.
When they found out that Lleu was not dead, she and Gronw fled, trying to run away together, fast as they could, but she fell behind. It was too late for Gronw and she commanded he continue on, he continue to live and go. He wouldn’t leave and it took a vicious scratch her part, as if her hands grew talons, to make him flee. The magicians came upon her, her torn dress, her defying eyes, the Oak’s blood pumping through her veins. They showed her no pity and she did not want it from them. She made her own destiny, not the destiny they deemed she live. She chose her own man and took him, disposing of the one they deemed she take to her bed.
For her sins, they changed her into the most hated of birds, the omen of death and the creature of the night. Those claws that she used to force Gronw flee, they changed into talons. Her skin itched then burned as white feathers sprouted from her skin. Her eyes, already wide and bright, grew large and dark, allowing her to see only in the night, forcing her to stay in this time of day, forcing her to stay in the dark night. She laughed at them. The stars only reminded her of Gronw’s eyes and the blue-black hair of his head. Her transformation soon cut off her vocal cords and she couldn’t laugh, for she would not scream, as her arms and legs curled into wings and talons.
She became the first owl.
Gwydion cursed her, his words still vivid in her ears, ‘You will not dare to show your face ever again in the light of day ever again, and that will be because of enmity between you and all other birds. It will be in their nature to harass you and despise you wherever they find you. And you will not lose your name - that will always be Bloddeuwedd, Flower-face.’
Bloddeuwedd lived this way, learning later of her lover’s death. He had asked, cowardly, of Lleu’s forgiveness but was denied. Instead it was demanded of him that he be speared. Gronw asked only that a rock be placed between him and spear’s path. It was and now there is a rock called Gronw’s rock, a large hole marking it as such. Though he acted the fool in his grief, Bloddeuwedd mourned him, living as an owl goddess, a night goddess, and the May queen of flowers.
She was pulled from that life. The same familiar burn, her owl form was torn from her, the flowers that had given her life now giving her life again, this time, though, in a room of iron and steel. The first face she saw was that of a dark skinned young man called Aiden who dubbed her Anne. She wasn’t alone. There were two females and a male with her, but she was forced to relive this, again. Forced into life and created again by a male who thought he knew what he was doing in giving her life, in creating her with the same earth stuffs that those idiotic magicians had made her with before.
