' last - Deverell- means ‘From The River Of The Fertile Upland Region’. The Latins and Romans weren’t sea dwelling peoples originally so their Neptune was a god of rivers, lakes and freshman regions, only becoming a sea-god when they realized rivers and lakes lead to oceans sometimes and then put two and two together. His surname pretty much sums up how the ancients viewed Neptune.
