Significance of Name: “Cuchulainn” means “Hound of Chulainn”. “Caleb” means “rage of a dog” relating to the story of how Cuchulainn first got his name, by, in a rage, accidently killing a guard dog and in turn offering to be said guard-dog. “Liam” means “warrior” or “strong defender”, which is what Cuchulainn is. Culann is just another version of Chulainn.

STRIKE A POSE ' '
Physical Appearance:Caleb is what people call “black Irish.” His shaggy hair is auburn than can look red in some lights and brown in others. His eyes are a deep chocolate color and almond shaped. Occasionally, it looks like he’s squinting. He has very strong bone structures in his face with high cheekbones and a strong chin. His nose looks as if it was broken, once (it was, in a bar fight, but he doesn’t remember much about the incident). He has pink cupid’s bow lips, but a habit of pressing his lips together makes them look thin. His hair grows fast, so he’s constantly between having facial hair and being clean shaven. It’s an ongoing battle and varies from week to week.
Standing at 6’3”, and being EXTREMELY tall for his age, he generally slouches. When he walks, he takes long strides, but still manages to look awkward, as if he’s unsure of his own body. He is athletically toned, mostly from just messing around outside since he was a kid. He has that pale Irish skin that tends to burn easily. His hands are calloused from being outside. Since his body runs unusually hot, due to his ability, he never has need of a jacket unless he’s trying to impress someone.
When he speaks, it’s hard to place the brogue. After constantly being shuffled between Manchester and Ireland, the accents mixed into an odd mix that’s all his own. When he gets excited, it’s hard to understand what he says. Otherwise, it adds to his charm.
LET'S GET TO KNOW YOU BETTER ' '
Personality Description: Caleb has a knack for mood swings. ADD makes it difficult for him to concentrate on much and tends to make him hyper. He hates sitting for very long and tends to get bouncy when he’s bored. But, once he’s unleashed on the outside world, he’s doing everything from sports to climbing random buildings. Never having been on medications for it, the hyperactivity tends to be a problem when left unchecked. While he’s generally a carefree guy, the hyperactivity can make him a lover one moment and then a fighter the next.
Women scare him. After coming out of a bad relationship, he’s wary of women. Not to say he doesn’t like them. He loved them. He thinks they are pretty, compact, smell nice, eat less and are generally smarter than he is. He especially loves girls with fiery tempers or strong personalities, seeing as how he was raised by one. However, he’s wary when a woman begins batting their eyes at him. It’s made him immune to feminine wiles, unless the woman is giving off some sort of emotion controlling steroid. He doesn’t mind girls as friends, but as lovers, he’s more cautious.
Caleb is usually easy to get along with. He’s usually cheerful and has a rather goofy personality. He likes to joke around and has a rather sarcastic streak when he needs it. He likes making friends. Going to the pub used to be his favorite pastime, where it would relieve some of the fighting energy he reserved. Usually, all his fights would eventually end in a pat on the back and pint, but coming to the US, he found his pastime has been cut off. It has been a bit of a culture shock and now, he finds himself more restless with a lack of sparring partners.

Fears: Being permanently stuck in his transformed form.
Goal: Find a pretty girl, settle down, start his own (UK) football team, then start a pub that becomes so renowned and world famous it brings about world peace and freedom. Or become a superhero, whatever. He’s simple like that.
Power/Ability: Alternate Form- When he’s worked into a rage, or just because he’s bored and wants to show off, he can transform. Here’s what happens:
He begins to quiver. Then, his feet, calves and thighs switch backwards, followed by the muscles standing out almost to the size of fists. The frontal sinews of his head pull back to his neck and bulge. One eye bulges hugely out of his head and the other grows as small as a bean. His mouth widens so that it touches his ears. The muscles in his back tighten and bulge, causing him to hunch over. His heartbeat can be heart as if someone is banging against the wall. His body temperature grows to snow melting proportions. His hair tangles, growing red like fire and sucking into his head so that only half an inch or so shows. He also grows horns. He looks like a horned werewolf.
While like this, he becomes a bezerker of sorts. While he is vulnerable to battle wounds, they won’t affect him until he comes out of the transformation in which, depending on the severity, he could die without medical attention. While he is tremendously strong, he’s not altogether impervious in this form.
Superhuman Strength- Cuchulainn was known for being one of the strongest men of his generation, being able to kill people with a single blow, lifting whole houses over his head, manning unmanable chariots, etc. Caleb is also super strong.
Regeneration- It took alot to bring Cuchulainn down. Even in the end, he tied himself to a rock in order to keep fighting. When he was wounded, he seemed to bounce back from it right away. So, Caleb has regeneration.
Superhuman Reflexes- Cuchulainn was one of the greatest fighters in Celtic history period. One doesn't become a warrior like that without having the reflexes of a god. Not to mention, Cuchulainn trained with some of the most agile fighters of their time, it'd be natural that that would carry over into Caleb's life.
WELCOME TO MY LIFE ' '
Origin: Belfast, Ulster Co., Northern Ireland
History: To understand Caleb, you need to understand his family. The Culanns had been in Ireland since the time of clans. When the English took over, the Culanns were among the first to fight. Both of Caleb’s grandfathers and a few of his uncles were active in the IRA until about the time Caleb was born, though none of his immediate family claimed membership. Caleb had clear memories of following his grandfather to a few of pubs and listening to patriotic songs of freedom and the valor of Irish men. He was also made, several times, to stand on the pub counter and vow to dedicate his life to the freedom of Ireland (never mind that there hadn’t been IRA activity in awhile and Ireland was beginning to emerge as one of the world powers in computers). Caleb had always been instilled with a strong sense of freedom and knowledge that if anyone tried to take that from you, you best fight to keep it.
When Caleb was born, he was a sick baby, suffering from weak lungs. Nora Culann took time off at work as a translator to take care of her son well past the maternity leave date and thus he rapidly became his mother’s favorite and, as a result, became a kind of momma’s boy, though he’d bloody anyone’s nose that makes a comment about it. Though he had four other brothers, Nora always felt most connected to Caleb and lavished attention on him. Other than the obvious mark of Momma’s boy, he learned enough Italian, French, Spanish and Russian to get by in said areas. However, he can’t keep a detailed conversation about politics or some such subject.
In addition to living with his mother, he also shared the house with two of his brothers, Angus and Patrick, his grandfather, Donovan, and his father Seamus. The other brother, Callum had died when a car bomb went off near where he was riding his bike. His second oldest brother, Desmond, lived in Manchester with his wife. Seamus made a living as a boxer, where he became quite good and schooled his sons in the art.
Since Caleb was such a sick child, he spent most of his informative years at his grandfather’s knee, listening to his stories of the Celtic heroes and goddesses, of Lugh, Aengus, and the Morrigan. But mostly, he heard stories of Cuchulainn, the hero and defender of Ulster, the hero who could take on both Achilles and Heracles and give them a run for their money. He told him tales of Cuchulainn’s exploits, how he made it to the afterlife and how he defeated Aoife, the warrior woman, and how he refused the attentions of the goddess Morrigan. He also told of Cuchulainn’s death, how the warrior wanted to go down fighting and tied himself to a rock once his body began to give out because of his wounds. Caleb’s mind raced with the man’s legends and he would pretend to be the Hound of Ulster himself, scarring off the neighborhood cats with a stick for a sword.
Then, Caleb turned four. Once, while watching his brothers play football (the real stuff, not the American junk), Caleb tentatively wanted to join. When his brothers wouldn’t let him, a rage came over him like nothing he had known before. Suddenly, he began to transform. Once his transformation was completed, his brothers stared at their little brother who had morphed into a monster right before their eyes. Though Caleb didn’t remember any of it, he did remember his mother’s voice calling to him through the thick of his rage.
When he came too, his mother was crying, his father staring at him like he had grown a second hand, his grandfather was smiling like the proudest man alive and his brothers were both trying to recount what he had become at the same time. Even before Pantheon contacted his family, his grandfather had spoken the words, “He has the gift of Cuchulainn. The boy is connected.” However, his parents and siblings thought that Caleb was a freak and that grandpa was being cheesy.
Overnight, his health improved. He was always outside and rarely stayed in. Whether it be wandering with packs of boys (and occasionally dogs) or playing some sort of sport, the only time Caleb stayed in was to practice boxing or eat. He couldn’t sit still for very long and found his mind constantly wandering.
However, his mother constantly warned him about his transformation. If anyone else saw it, chances are, he could be taken away from them. As a precautionary measure, Nora began having Caleb stay with his brother Desmond for part of the year and the other part at home in Ireland. She figured that, if he was constantly moving, no one could pin him down and find out about his ability. As a result, Caleb began to develop a mixed Brit-Irish brogue, as well as an appreciation for English culture, though he would never tell his uncles or grandfather about it.
Once, when he was about seven, he learned about his strength and was devastated for it. The man living across from the football field Caleb and his friends used have an old guard dog. One day, the ball they were using rolled into the yard of his neighbor and the dog stood ravenously by in, guarding it. Caleb simply walked up to the dog and began to wrestle it, trying to get their ball back. As he began to transform, his strength naturally grew with the transformation. Eventually, he heard a scared whimper and found he had killed the animal. Devastated, he dug a grave for the beast, held a funeral for it and then cried for days at home. He was, after all, a little boy and besides, he liked dogs. Since there were no witnesses to the particulars of the details of the incident, he never told anyone about it except for his mother.
When he was twelve, he started to notice girls. When he was fourteen, he had his first girlfriend. When a skinny fifteen year old red head named Kate began to train with his father and, thus, with him, he became interested, to say the least. However, she really caught his eye by knocking him flat on his ass during sparring sessions. She opened up a world of sensations to him, making him fall head over heels for her and surrendering his virginity. It was a passionate romance, in his fourteen year old opinion, but a fling in hers. She was already spoken for and ended up choosing her actual boyfriend over the “fling.” It hurt Caleb, but taught him a valuable lesson about women and keeping his guard up. It also made him slightly stupid and twitchy around them. As a result, he’s not taken in by feminine wiles, unless they are emitting some sort of emotional steroid.
Though he had always followed Donovan to the local pubs, growing up on the patriotic songs of Ireland, he had never started partaking of the beer until he was about thirteen. From then on, it was a done deal. Alcoholism ran in the family and, though they weren’t abusive or angry drunks, they did get very patriotic and very friendly, though ironically more susceptible to a bar fight. Thus, Caleb found himself in many a bar fight, giving him a broken nose at one point. Once, after drinking with his brothers, they had wandered the streets of Belfast and somehow ending up in Galway (how they got past immigration is still a subject of extreme debate).
For awhile, Caleb had a normal experience growing up. He was hyperactive, sporty and rather goofy. He always maintained a strong sense of pride in his country, as well as a strong sense of freedom. Always cheerful and upbeat, Caleb was generally a regular ADD kid. He kept his transformations under wrap, rarely transforming unless he got too excited with his brothers.
Then, the people from Pantheon showed up. At first, his mother immediately shuffled him off to Manchester, but they showed up there too. He was shuffled on back to Northern Ireland, but they followed. After sufficiently proving that they were NOT a government agency hell-bent on making Caleb a test subject, but a school for gifted children interested in helping Caleb train his transformation, Nora was still on the fence. Eventually, Seamus stepped in, convincing his wife that this was best for his son. She, eventually, agreed and, for the first time in his life, Caleb was separated from his family.
CONNECTION TO THE MYTH ' '
- Cú Chulainn’s power is almost exactly the same as Caleb’s. The only things I changed were the fire breathing, which I figure is a power that’ll come later, the “clouds of destruction” that are supposed to waft around his head, and the impossible strength. I also made him slightly prettier as a rabid werewolf in appearance than a… whatever he would look like.
- Caleb fell in love with a boxer named Kate who broke his heart because she was already in a relationship. Cú Chulainn fell in love with both a warrior woman named Aoife and a goddess named Fand. Fand later choose her husband over Cú Chulainn and broke his heart. I just combined the two women.
- Cú Chulainn got his name from accidently killing a guard dog. Caleb accidently killed a guard dog.
- Nora, Caleb’s mother, is a translator. Deichtre, Cú Chulainn’s mother, was a queen from another land and I imagine she had to translate from language to language (even if it was a different kind of Gaelic).
- Cú Chulainn traveled to many lands outside of Ireland, including France, Spain and Greece. Caleb knows the languages of many lands, including French and Spanish.
- Caleb’s auburn hair, that looks sometimes red and sometimes brown, is a nod to Cú Chulainn’s appearance, as he had hair that was three different colors, among them red and brown.
- Cú Chulainn’s power kicked in when he played a game with some boy from court. Caleb’s power kicked in when he played a game with his brothers.
- Caleb’s father, Seamus, is a boxer. Cú Chulainn’s father, Sualtam, was a warrior. They’re similar, I tell you!
- Cú Chulainn, when drunk, once got a whole army lost in Ireland. Caleb, when drunk, somehow got himself and his brothers lost in Galway.
