STRIKE A POSE ' '

Physical Appearance: Elwyn has waist length, slightly wavy reddish hair combined with dark brown eyes that always seem to be far away. She tends to keep her hair in a high pony tail with a few locks hanging over her face, occasionally plaited into tiny plaits after particularly boring classes. Faint scars are apparent on her forearms from various depressive episodes during her childhood. She has a half-circle scar around her left eye from a riding accident.

She's slender, bordering on too thin, standing at about one metre seventy, her eyes slightly angular, with very pale skin. She doesn't tan, she burns in the sunlight very easily.

She wears either black jeans or combat trousers combined with tank tops or off-the-shoulders tops along with her much-loved pair of dark leather vambraces on days that are a little biting. Her favourite jacket is a light, black one, cut in a military fashion. She tends to wear Converse style shoes or boots with no heel. Most of her wardrobe is dark with very few exceptions.
She tends to stand in a proud fashion, not appearing weak to anyone. Her head is always held high, one half of her face covered by the hair that she leaves loose, and her ponytail hanging straight down her back.

She always wears two necklaces around her neck, just slightly looser than chokers. One is a silver braided ring that she considers her good-luck charm, and the other a silver star that her best friend had given to her after a trip to Spain.

Personality Description: She's a hot-head, very determined, and hardly ever shows her fear or her pain. She finds it very hard to trust, but those that she does trust benefit from her unwavering loyalty and protection. She has had problems with depression previously.

She used to be fairly bubbly, when her father and her blood mother were still together, but after her father’s remarriage, she became very quiet and withdrawn. She rarely speaks unless it’s to her best friend, Alba Bay, otherwise she answers in monosyllables.

Her other nickname came from her habit of ‘shadowing’ the group that Alba hung out with and also because during the sunny months, she would always stand in the shadows out of fear of being burnt again.

Her other habits include rubbing the scar around her eye when she’s pensive or impatient, speaking exactly what’s on her mind when she’s annoyed, normally without thinking about it first and therefore making herself quite a few enemies.

History:
Elwyn comes from a broken home, but she stays with her blood father. Her blood mother lives in England, running a very successful competition stable. At the age of five, Elwyn started to notice tensions between her parents, but was too young to know what could be wrong between them. Her mother gave Elwyn her first ever pony; a Welsh section B named Kiko, just two weeks before she broke up with Elwyn’s father.

Elwyn felt that she could only depend on the pony at first, but her father helped her to break out of the confusion brought on by the divorce, until he remarried. Elwyn was seven at this point, and her stepmother brought along a child, a boy named Caleb, who was three years older than Elwyn. Shortly after their parent’s wedding, she discovered that Kiko understood everything that she said, and that she could understand him.

Tensions were already high between Elwyn and Caleb, and once more, Elwyn sought freedom with her pony until she outgrew him when she was nine. Her blood mother helped her to sell the pony, and gave her one of the youngsters from the stable she had set up in England. It was during the training of her new mare, Midnight Star, that Elwyn acquired the scar around her eye.

When Elwyn was eight, she first picked up a bow. It was Caleb’s, a proper sports bow with children’s arrows, the kind with suction cups on the end instead of arrowheads. She only wanted to try it, as she had seen Caleb using it several times, and she was curious. She fired her first arrow, and found that she enjoyed the feeling of achievement, similar to that which she gained on horseback, when her arrow hit third from centre ring on the target set up about ten metres away. She practised with the bow when she could, even after her stepmother had told her off severely, saying that archery “was not a lady’s sport”. She started to experiment on horseback, firing at a target as she cantered past, and then she started to try out other weapons, such as swords and BB guns, again borrowed from her stepbrother and used in secret from her stepbrother.

At school, Elwyn didn’t have that many friends, mainly only her best friend, Alba Bay. She tends to keep very much to herself, just as she does at home. She is vaguely scared of her stepmother, as her father seems to agree with her disciplinary methods (A whack to the face and a ban from seeing her horse for any length of time).

She was accepted to the academy when a letter arrived for her during the summer, inviting her to attend. She accepted without really thinking about it. Anything to get out of the house and away from the family.
