Physical Appearance:
Shinobu is clearly an individual with an Asian descent. But then again, that could be any one of 50% of the world’s population. Shinobu is of Japanese descent though. With a skin tone ranging on the paler side of the usual, Shinobu has a fair and clean complexion, worthy of being at least decently pleasant to look at. His hair is an earthy brown, often cut to a medium length and shaggy style, which once a year, he’ll try and experiment with, just to try a new look. His eyes have a deeper, chocolate color, and often are the darkest feature of his face.
Body-wise, he can’t be faulted too much. He’s lanky, but athletically built, featuring well-toned muscle, especially in his legs. His upper body is a bit smoother with the toning, but he has a definable six-pack. He used to be skinnier and had more tone, but he’s been eating more to keep his fat percentage in a healthy zone rather than leaving it borderline minimum. Being so physically active has left him with a few scars, and not the kind that are conveniently placed or pretty. His right shoulder has one from when he was younger and slit open his shoulder during a fall. There’s also one on his left side buttcheek from a superspeed incident involving another person’s butt and him not looking forward.

Personality Description:
Shinobu likes to give the impression that he’s a calm, normal, and relaxed person. Due to his powers, he’s anything but. He’s always thinking, processing the world around him. His mind doesn’t turn off, so he has to slow his thoughts down and focus in order to keep in pace with the flow of everyday life. The result is a lot of boredom. Sometimes, this grants him the title of “spaz” as he loses track of what’s being said, especially when there are a lot of things to be distracted by. Regardless of his desire to make everyone just adjust to his own quirks and inconsistent attention, he tries to work on his patience, simply because he’s yet to find anyone who can keep up with him.
Contrary to the coiled spring that is his internal self, Shinobu puts on a slower, almost apathetic face in order to act among those who take life more seriously. Slowing down and keeping pace with others annoys him to a point, but he puts up with it. Because as much as he is different from others, he prefers to fit in as much as possible. He’s protective of his friends, and is doubly vigilant in keeping his friends happy. Shinobu in fact, is perhaps too determined to keep his friends happy, to the point where he can be considered a push-over and a sucker.
Shinobu is also a very straight-laced kid. Child to a police officer, he’s been given strong moral lessons from an early stage. He’s not one to break laws, or even rules. Honor is a big thing with him and he does what he can to keep a positive spin on his reputation. Despite this, he does not chase down those that break the rules. He understands not everyone is as morally sensitive as he is, and if someone tells him they downloaded a pile of MP3’s last night, the main reason he’d say “don’t do that” is because more likely than not the pirating site contains a giant pile of viruses.

Strength:
- Smart: Shinobu can study for a test five minutes before the test starts and be ready to rock. Learning comes quickly for him, as do a lot of other things.
- Willpower: True to his name, when it really comes down to it, Shinobu can dig in and power though serious business. He doesn’t like it in the least, but he doesn’t give up just because something is boring.
- Speedy: It’s his power, yes, but Shinobu his quick in more than just running. It also helps him be on time, or usually way early to arranged meetings.
- Tough: Shinobu and his brother fight all the time, in the full contact sense. Shinobu can take a good punch.
- Well-Balanced: Yes, Shinobu is smart and athletic. Both his body and mind are in tune with each other. While some would say that it’s just not possible to be both without sacrificing something. But in a relative sense, Shinobu has more time than most people, and is better able to balance his studies and exercise.
Weaknesses:
- Awkward Moments: Shinobu can be socially awkward, if only because he doesn’t look like he’s paying attention. But the social encounter is not his strong suit.
- Bad Moods: If Shinobu is upset, he shows it, even when he tries to hide it. He’s expressive like that.
- Protective: Being protective is a flaw when someone decides to make someone else’s day a living nightmare. Because either the protective one takes the brunt of it to save others, or because the protective one is unable to do anything, and takes the blame.
- Hasty: Everything Shinobu does is really fast. Or is it the other way around, where everyone else is slow? For Shinobu, everyone goes slower than him, so he has to constantly hold himself back, or he’ll leave everyone behind.
- Empathic: Shinobu, no matter how independent and cold he may try to become, still has a bleeding heart for someone who’s suffering. Emotionally, physically, whatever; if it’s someone who’s genuinely hurt, Shinobu is compelled to do what he can to help them.
Fears: Being tied down, bound, or restrained in a physical way. Helplessness.
Goal: Become the coolest police officer ever.
Power/Ability: Superhuman Speed
Shinobu, simply put, is faster than the average human in almost every aspect. He runs faster, thinks faster, learns faster, heals faster, and reacts faster than most everyone he’s ever met. He’s fast enough, in fact, to outrun a beam of light. Of course, Einstein says that’s impossible. But the very nature of how he becomes faster allows him to transcend normal speed boundaries. At least, he can in theory. He’s still working on the whole thing.
Phase 1: Fade
As Shinobu moves faster, unlike a normal object, Shinobu loses mass, converting the solid matter around him to an energy state. This would include things he’s holding, like clothing, weapons, or occasionally people. So instead of it becoming harder for him to move faster, it becomes easier. Also, because he becomes an energy state, he becomes effectively intangible once he’s moving faster than 30 miles per hour. He’s able to move at a speed around 600 miles per hour in this state.
WELCOME TO MY LIFE ' '
Place of Origin: Akita, Japan
History:
Not a whole lot can be said for Shinobu’s earliest days. His family was supportive and loving, placed comfortably in the lower spectrum of the middle class. He was named for a lost friend of his father’s who’d died while they were on duty together in the SDF. His father, now a police officer, loved to tell stories of his days in the force, when he wasn’t working double shifts driving for the shipyard. He had always made Shinobu’s namesake out to be something of a superhero, even if the majority of the stories were about crazy parties and pulling pranks on the CO’s.
So when the wide-eyed and inspired child wound up in elementary school, what did he do? He locked up and got shy. He was almost held back due to his lack of social development in kindergarten. But his parents insisted he keep going forward with his age group, for fear of him feeling alienated by the fact that he’d be older than his classmates. His schooling continued properly from then on, and showed that Shinobu himself was a bright student, if a little behind socially. He was particularly good at math and science, while his speaking skills were lagging behind a little as well.
He passed through earlier schooling with flying colors, and joined the track team in junior high at the urging of his mother. It treated him well, giving him something to do after school, but also putting him into a social group considered higher-up on the school’s social food chain. All those skills he lacked in elementary made him the most reserved and down-to-earth of the team, earning him a reputation as the “modest” or “nice” one. What he thought was a weakness turned into a bit of a strength as his gentle, relaxed nature made him acceptable in many social circles, letting him drift about and make a few diverse and strong friends.
Well, one day, he was preparing for a track meet. Stretching, taking a small practice jog, all of that goodness. His brother, two years his senior and set to go to Toho, challenged him to a race. Of course, Shinobu accepted. And Shinobu won. By a lot. And without the benefit of his clothing. His brother was staring wide-eyed at his clothes, messily piled at the starting line. Oops. Soon enough, a representative of Pantheon was there, more than amused at the embarrassing origin story of the real-life “Flash.”
CONNECTION TO THE MYTH ' '
- While Shinobu isn’t fond of hunting, due to his love of animals, he is working on his skills as a police officer. One might argue he’s switching from hunting animals, to hunting criminals.
- Hoori is known as “Fire Fade,” and Shinobu’s power seems to make him fade out of existence itself.
- Shinobu doesn’t get along amazing well with his brother, and they often quarrel. Guess which two gods have that same sort of problem?
ROLEPLAYING SAMPLE ' '
Max was panting for air, feeling claustrophobic considering what the guy could do with the ground. On top of that, he had a genuine anime boy-meets-girl embarrassment moment, what with Charlie trapped between him and the pavement. At least it wasn't the version where his face wound up in between the sweater pillows. Still embarrassing.
He closed his eyes and took longer, deeper breaths. 'Stop panicking. Slow down, weigh your options. He could crush you both, so the assault has to stop first. You can't stop him from generating spikes out of the ground that surrounds you. Maybe he's not that creative or good at controlling his power. Maybe he is. That's reason enough to hold back. Collect yourself and get out of the situation.' Max took a long exhale, and his eyes snapped shut. He only needed to be aware of the energy. With a long exhale, he collected his strength, distributing his power through the blanket of asphalt that covered them. Sufficient force would break it apart and he could get Charlie out even if Conner tried to re-surround him.
"Keep calm... Be ready..." Max unleashed his full strength against the asphalt. Instead of one single burst of energy, it was more of a continuous push. Which was unlike his power's normal operation. Granted, it was a split second, but it was enough that Max would figure out the significance of such a thing later. For now, the entire ground around them cracked and shattered, releasing them from the stone prison. As he planned, expecting another blanketing of stone, he used a quick burst to shove Charlie away into a sideways roll so if the blanket came down, only he'd be trapped. Otherwise, he'd get up, favoring his right leg.
