STRIKE A POSE ' '
Physical Appearance: The first thing that most people notice about Ash is that she has the darkest deep blue eyes possible without them looking black. They’re the type that you can get lost in if you weren’t careful. Her hair is a dark honey blonde that falls past her shoulders. Her looks are all the lighter features, but tinted dark as if by the shadows of her personality. Her face is delicate, almost like it should belong to a doll, but don’t tell her that, she won’t appreciate it.
Her clothes are always white, as if to counteract the darkness to her looks. But at night, she wears only black, because when she goes out at night its mostly because she wants to be alone to appreciate the beauty that the darkness has to offer.
She stands at 5’11 and is close to six feet, though she’s barely over a hundred pounds. She was born with a disorder that makes it hard for her to gain weight, so she just tries hard to make sure that she doesn’t look like a skeleton, hence why she runs to keep up her figure and make her look more lean then skeleton like.
LET'S GET TO KNOW YOU BETTER ' '
Personality Description:
Aislinn is an impulsive child, though she does mean well. She has a need to blend into a crowd though she is by nature very quiet. She is a master liar and knows when to keep her tongue and when to launch into action and lie her butt off. She is skilled at remembering the lies she told as well, though she does on occasion get caught up in one of two of them. She does this because she doesn’t want to be sent home and doesn’t know if they’re still looking for her. Ash has never felt good enough, never felt like the person she is is the person she should be. It bothers her and makes her feel unworthy often, and causes her to isolate herself.
She is impulsive, a liar, and knows when to simply watch. She can’t help but lie when she first meets someone, though if she likes them enough she may actually tell them the truth about her. May. She has only told anyone her story just once. She has a weakness for helping people in need. On her travels she has been known to stop what she’s doing to call 911-even if it could get her caught-or stay with someone until help arrived. Even though she cant fight worth a damn, if someone needs help she’ll jump into the fray, she can’t help it. But on the flipside also loves to confuse the hell out of people and be seriously strange. She rarely smiles however, often keeping her face impassive, even if on the inside her thoughts and feelings are all over the place.
Likes:
- Lying, she hates letting people close
- Dogs, hounds, Finn which is her own wolf-dog halfbreed
- The Night
- Being on her own
- Confusing people
-Being someone that she’s not
-Helping those who need it, in contrast to her lying nature
-being her own person
Dislikes:
-Birds
-Having to conform
-Using her ability “properly”
-People calling her dark or delicate.
-Feeling tied down
-Being caught in a lie
-People assuming things about her
-Feeling like her family is ashamed of her
Strength:
-Her ability
-Knowing when people need her help, rather than her trickery
-Good at lying, way too good
-Very fast
- Can blend into a crowd easily
-Can keep a secret
-Can appear not to care at all
Weaknesses:
-Very bad at agility. Like, she’s run into trees before when she wasn’t paying attention
-Her need to help people when they need it
-The more she uses her abilities to play with darker stuff, the less she can manage to care. Has started to only use the lighter side, which is usually weaker magic
-Feels the need to prove herself to others
-Cares more about her hound Finn then people
-Often pretends not to be herself, to the point where she’s not sure who she is anymore
Fears: Never be good enough, to hurt someone that needs her help, being tied down, Not proving she’s good enough, falling in love
Goal: To find out who she is, To find out who her mother is, to stop feeling so ashamed and uncomfortable about herself
Power/Ability: Ash is what modern day people call a witch. She can cast spells, to put it the basic way. Usually she needs herbs, oils, candles and the works…plus a specific spell in mind. But sometimes the spell she wants just comes to her, and she speaks it without meaning to and well…things don’t always end up happy. Sometimes she blows up something without meaning to. She has lately been sticking to the lighter side of her magical abilities, doing things only to help people rather than to hinder. Though, she can be a bit of a trickster with it, as in making someone trip, or getting a bit vindictive with someone who crosses her. Her magic almost always requires a focus (aka runes, herbs and the like) as well as a spell, though sometimes just the spell is required.
WELCOME TO MY LIFE ' '
Place of Origin: Dublin, Ireland
History:
Aislinn Luna never had the pleasure of meeting her mother, though the woman did name her. She was the product of a one night stand. Her mother was backpacking through Ireland just after her last year of college, it was a last ditch effort to retain some freedom before the real world took over and set in, and it was at a bar that she met Ashton, Aislinn Luna’s father. She had just been looking for a place to stay, but a fun night, some flirting, and a lot of alcohol later made sure that she did a lot more than sleeping that night. And that one time was where Ash was conceived. Her mother went home, back to America, and was surprised to learn that the baby was growing inside her. She also didn’t have the funds to take care of the child. She had stayed the week at Ashton’s house, so she wrote to him, letting him know she was pregnant and couldn’t care for the child, she had no money to. Ashton agreed to take the child, and when Ash was only a year old, she left for Ireland. Her mother promised to visit all the time, but she never showed up again. The only thing Ash has left to remember her by is a moon shaped pendant that she never takes off. Ashton was heartbroken, though she never took it out on the child who was the spitting image of her mother.
What they didn’t know was that her mother got cancer that year, and didn’t survive out the year. Her parents didn’t approve of Ashton from the beginning, so they never told their “son in law” or granddaughter that her mother was dead. It was a cruel thing to do, but human nature is like that sometimes. Ashton married when Ash was seven. Brenda was never mean to her step-daughter, but there was always a distance, and Ash knew that the woman wasn’t her mother. It didn’t help that she, and her new step sisters looked nothing like her. Ash felt outcasted.
Her father loved to sit with Ash and tell her stories of her mother, that was Ash’s favorite part of the day. There weren’t many, and she knew them all by heart, but come nighttime she would drag her father into her room and have him tell her stories. She corrected her father when he got a detail wrong, and could tell him them herself, which amused her father to no end. The two were close and night became her favorite time, something that would stick with her.
Which was why it pained him when things that shouldn’t usually happen, happened to her step sisters. He knew that it was Ash, why else would it only happen after they upset her? Why else would they suddenly trip, or would their favorite things go missing, or would they cry for no reason? He spoke to her about it, calmly, but it was obvious that she made him nervous now. His night visits started to decrease, the thing was that Ash wasn’t trying to do these things. She just got mad, it would pop into her head, and she would speak it. She knew she was doing these things..she was just so sad all the time…and lonely… Her baby half brother was never touched though, even when he broke her things or hurt Ash and made her upset, she never touched him. She still never lays a hand on a child.
She left when she turned eleven, far too young to be on her own but what else could she do? She took the crescent necklace, her mother and father’s notes that they sent to each other about her, and all the money she could manage to take, as well as a backpack full of clothes…and she left. She looked so much like her mother then, back packing through Ireland. And, being the kind child she was still then, she always helped out people who needed it…and in return they would give her a place to stay. She spelled her crescent necklace, to make it have a charm that would cause people not to look at her unless she wanted them to, it allowed her to slip in and out of places easier. And she began to research, finding out what she could really do.
She was twelve when she told her first lie. And it worked so well that she did it again…and again…and again. It made her feel less alone, so why not? She did it to draw people to her or push them away, she did it to make sure no one would send her back home where her family feared her, she did it so well she got herself on a plane to the United States. And she only got worse the longer she went. And she started using her magic for her own gain, but she was twelve…and they don’t often have the most tact. Though, the more she used it, the less she cared…it made her feel darker…
Aislinn Luna had a love of forests as well. There was game she could catch for her own food, there were berries once she could tell which were not good to eat, there was shelter…and there was the comfort of no one watching her, she could be herself. She met her Finavarra in the woods when she was sheltering herself there. A wolf pack came through and she stayed in her tree, watching them pass. And it wasn't until they passed that she saw a little black pup limping after them. They had left him behind and Ash felt sympathetic for him.She had always had a soft spot for dogs, and wolves were the same type of creature when one got right down to it. She took in the little black wolf pup and nursed him back to help, naming him after the faerie king of the stories and calling him Finn for short. As he healed, he needed to run more, and that was how Ash gained her speed...she learned how to run right by Fin's side, helping him run faster. It helped her learn how to run faster too.
At fourteen she came across another girl. Who was so much like her in many ways, she wasn’t sure why but she felt a kinship to this girl who was on her own as well. They spent the night at the same camp, and then a night turned into a week. And in that week, she told this girl her story, her full story. The girl spoke to her about the darkness she felt in her soul, and it eased Ash’s pain a bit…and she had a suggestion that Ash has stuck to since. Only use it to help, not to hinder. And it makes her feel lighter again. It was only after she told it though that she ran, afraid that the girl would hate her for knowing all that about her. And afraid she would hurt this girl. She began only to travel at night, feeling more calm then than she ever did during the day.
And then Pantheon found her a year later, when she was fifteen. She wasn’t happy about being stuck in one place, and she refused to let Finn be taken away from her. She’s not happy to be here at all, and she refuses to tell anyone her story…though she is glad to see she isn’t the only person out there with an ability…that at least makes her calm. And learning more spells certainly doesn’t hurt it at all either.
CONNECTION TO THE MYTH ' '
- Her ability is magic, and being a witch…which was one of the main things that Hecate was all about.
- She has a weakness for helping others, and though Hecate was named “Worker from afar” she was always there if a traveler needed her.
- Hecate is called reclusive a lot, much like Ash who’s always on her own, and is also the type to find solace in the nights and take long walks in the night, which Ash also does often
- Hecate was always accompanied by a three headed dog, or three dogs, in many legends. Ash currently has Finn, her hound, and will probably accumulate two more over her time posting
- Hecate is misunderstood, though she often was called beautiful and helped many women and others with the crossroads in her time, now she is called the hag and is said to be an evil dark witch. Ash is constantly feeling misunderstood and feels alienated by other people, even her own family. She is trying to find out who she is, which relates to no one really knowing the true Hecate anymore.
- Ash is afraid being tied down, Hecate never stuck to one partner for too long
- One of those that were said to be under Hecate’s protection was the homeless, and for most of Ash’s life she herself is homeless and wandering
- Again, people tend to have conflicting ideas about Hecate, the older myths call her good, the newer ones credit her with dark magic, hence Ash’s fluctuation between the two.
ROLEPLAYING SAMPLE ' '
Post taken from a site where Ash is Hecate's demi-goddess daughter rather than Hecate:
Aislinn Luna never exactly knew what to do with herself when the time for sleep came around. Ash couldn't actually dream herself, it was too dangerous because she could get sucked back in herself and she had no intentions of doing that. Plus her mother had kept her from the world of dreams. She thought that with a frown. Was she not good enough to stay there with her mother? No. She wasn't, she thought with a sigh as she moved to her dresser and almost pulled out her pajama's to replace the white sweatpants and tank top she wore but thought better of it. Though she may sleep, she didn't dream...so sleep wasn't restful.
Why bother then?
She shook her head and moved to sit on her bed. Mel, her roommate, was long since asleep as far as she could tell. It was late afterall, she could feel all those around her sleeping...could feel herself being drawn to their dreams, being a dreamwalker that she was. Perhaps that was what she would do tonight. Yes, that seemed about right to Ash. She loved to dreamwalk, even though the last time she had she came back to her body and her hands were missing, still in the dreamworld...she had had to light the lanturn her mother had given her right away then to call the rest of her back. It was scary.
So this time she would simply light the lantern before she left. That should work...right? Oh well, trial and error! As long as the error didn't leave her as a ghost. That would suck royally.
Oh well. Boredom won out this time. She went up on her bed and lay down as if she was about to go to sleep, head on the pillow and touched the laturn that hung around ehr neck, one of her mothers but miniaturized, and it began to glow merrily. Then she closed her eyes...and let go...slowly. She felt herself rise from her body, suddenly clad in a long white shift like dress, as her mother wore. The garb of the soul and the dream walkers, she always found herself wearing it when she dream walked.
And then she began her wandering, leaving her apparently sleeping body and her roommate to make her way across the girl's dorms, frowning slightly...she was disappointed in these girl's dreams. One involved setting many things on fire, another involved sleeping with a boy...all so boring and menial. Nothing she wished to intrude upon or amuse herself with for the night. Seems like it was the boy's dorms for her. She usually couldn't extend her reach this far, but the lantern also strengthened her ability as well as tethered her to her earthly body.
So she slipped into the boys dorms, entirely unnoticed...she was like a ghost. And then one did call to her. It was...odd.
Definantly odd.
She slipped easily into this boy's head, easier then she slipped into most. With merely a thought, her outfit changed to a pair of blue jeans with different colored paints splattered on them and a dark shirt that had a color so wide that it hung off of one shoulder. In the dream world Ash let go of her rigid ways. She didn't bother trying to please her mother...she was much more loose and didn't wear white at all. Here she liked color.
And then a giant banana ran across the field she was standing in. Well huh.
She had to laugh when she saw what was going on here. Her...well her cousin of sorts seemed to be chasing a giant banana...how....odd. And there seemed to be some sort of mini-mushroom army following him. She sat on the chair that appeared there as soon as she thougth about it. The dreamworld was Ash's play thing. She could do as she pleased to it. She poofed up a cage to capture the little army that was chasing the boy. Perhaps she could get him to talk to her? One Demi to another...he was Fai Rea's son afterall...her cousin of sorts.
Or she could just screw with his dream. Which ever came first.
