Full Name: Jack Hare
Significance of Name:
-Jack: As a trickster god Loki embodies anarchy with a sense of humor. I couldn't find a better example of this archetype than the Joker himself. Many of the Joker's backstories have it in common that his first name was Jack.
-Hare: In Bantu mythology, the oral traditions of various groups of indigenous African tribes, the Hare is depicted as a cunning trickster spirit, often aiding the native peoples.

STRIKE A POSE ' '
Physical Appearance:face
Jack has a bit of a weatherworn face from his years with the caravan. His expression is most often serious, unless he is telling a joke, in which case witnesses will be treated to his heavily crooked smile. He can usually be seen with a light layer of stubble, as he often goes several days without touching a razor.hair
Jack's hair is a dark shade of brown, often appearing black indoors. He has had some premature grey streaks since being found by gyspies as a child. He keeps it a bit long, and it often finds its way down into his face, having to be kept in check by a frequent swipe of his hand.body
Giving credence to the image of the harlequin jester, Jack is a bit of an amateur gymnast. He keeps his body well in shape, and while he isn't bulky, few are the muscles that aren't well defined.clothes
Most often, Jack can be seen in a darkly tinted variant of a suit. Nothing too pricy or brand-name, but he does like to look sharp and his suits, while inexpensive, are always immaculately maintained. When dressing casually, he will don a plain white v-neck and dark jeans topped by a black leather jacket and perhaps a pair of sneakers.
LET'S GET TO KNOW YOU BETTER ' '
Personality Description:inquisitive
Jack's ability leaves him naturally disposed to be curious, and he is quite adept at unearthing hidden information. Once he has set his mind on a topic, it is impossible for him to know enough. He will spend hours in libraries, buried in books on obscure topics. He is likewise fascinated by the internet, to which he was introduced after leaving the caravan, as it seems to contain limitless information.obsessive
As previously stated, Jack will often let frivolous pursuits run away with him, but this is not the extent of his obsessive bent. Jack allows any habit to consume him utterly, and he is a rather severe alcoholic as well as a chain smoker. He doesn't have many friends, but those he does possess are his everything.well-spoken
As a consequence of his rabid consumption of knowledge, Jack possesses an enormously diverse vocabulary and is versed as a layman in several languages, often using obscure or foreign phrasing when he speaks. He speaks with an English accent twisted by some overly rolled consonant sounds from his gypsy upbringing.awkward
Jack's upbringing left a bit to be desired in his social development. The other romanie children avoided him, and so he lacks some social skills. He often makes jokes at inappropriate times about inappropriate things, his rare smile appearing to the quizzical looks of his companions.sneaky
Jack has a bit of an aptitude for subterfuge, and always knows what's really going on. He is an expert liar, and quite proficient at remaining unseen. This tendency is aided heavily by his ability, which lets him in on everyone's secrets. Jack relishes achieving his goals in this way, gaining immense satisfaction by making the truth known.Intellectual
Jack's ability compels him to dwell a bit more in the cerebral realm than the physical one. He will often find himself sitting in the corner at the party, reading the host's books (until he gets drunk, that is). Jack has no patience for those he considers intellectually inferior to him, barely considering them people.

-To not repeat the hubris of his former life.
Power/Ability:telepathy
"The ability to read the thoughts of, and/or to mentally communicate with others."passive telepathy
Jack's real strength is the passive application of telepathy. He subconsciously reads the thoughts of all of those near him. Years of honing his ability have made him capable of absorbing the thoughts of a great number of people with no difficulty, retaining all of the information gained. Most of the time, this encompasses the entire building he is in, and several adjacent. A greater number of people really does nothing to increase the difficulty of this, though if he is under a great deal of stress, the innumerable voices and constant chattering can become overwhelming. When in particularly close proximity to a person, Jack's telepathic effect will telescope automatically, and he will absorb their memories and life history. Strong willed people can sometimes resist Jack's passive telepathy, though few can withstand his focused effort to read their thoughts. Jack is also inherently resistant to all telepathic efforts of any but the most skilled telepaths, and even they must actively focus on reading Jack's thoughts, battling his will for access.
active telepathy
Upon focusing, Jack can delve into the memories of anyone within his telepathic field of influence. He can also make minor changes to the memories of anyone in said field. Nothing extreme, but he can, say, erase their memory of any contact with himself or insert a person into or black out a short period of their recent memory. Jack can also project his thoughts into a person's mind to facilitate non-verbal communication, as well as loop someone else into the thoughts he's picking up from others. This can function as a sort of collective mind. Jack can also mask a person's psychic presence from any telepath less powerful than himself, which would be most, resulting in their thoughts being silent. He can also lock a mind, using his own as a sort of firewall, blocking less powerful telepaths from accessing it.
illusion
Jack can project minor illusions onto those in his field of influence. These can extend to erasing his own presence from their perception, to projecting an illusion no bigger or more complex than a single person.Fire Manipulation
"The power to control and manipulate the kinetic energy of atoms to generate, control or absorb fire."
--Applications--
-Jack is able to speed up the atoms of air or any other substance, causing it to ignite.
-Jack can direct flames into jets from his hands and body, essentially becoming a human flame thrower.
-Jack can create a wall of searing flame as a barrier, keeping people from crossing due to the heat, and melting/incinerating most things.
-Jack can affect flight or levitation by creating a bubble of superheated air around himself, causing him to rise into the air while seemingly engulfed in flame.
-Jack is capable of changing his physiology into living flame, allowing faster flight and limited invulnerability. He can also change the shape of his body in this form, or split apart.
-Jack is immune to the negative effects of fire, as well as extreme heat.
--Limitations--
-Things like metal and most crystalline constructs have molecular compositions that are to stable for Jack to affect, rendering them unignitable.
-Jack's power to ignite is limited by the perceivability of the substance in question.
-Jack's ability to create flame is lessened in environments with little oxygen.
-The heat generated by Jack's flight can be dangerous.
-Great amounts of water will extinguish Jack's flames, though small amounts will simply vaporize.
-A large enough amount of water will also extinguish Jack entirely if he is in flame mode. Jack speculates that this would cause his death.
--Projected Development--
-Jack will become able to ignite anything , metal, crystal or otherwise.
-Jack's ability will increase, causing his flames to burn white hot.
-He will get better at flying and levitating, becoming capable of sonic speeds when in a physical body, and supersonic speeds when in flame mode.
WELCOME TO MY LIFE ' '
Place of Origin: The English Countryside (As far as anyone can tell)
History:
The boy had been wandering for three days. The orange-tinted sun was easing into its third rest, and the boy began to go very afraid. He tried to remember his home, how to get there, but it was black. He could remember nothing prior to the last three days. He went to sleep under a large tree that night, knowing that he would soon die.
He woke the next morning to a strange noise. With his blank slate of experience, the boy could make no headway in placing the noise. He followed it to its source on the far side of a nearby hill. The hill sloped gently down toward an ill-paved country road that was host to a dozen colorfully draped horse-led wagons that produced a fair amount of clicking and clattering as they trumbled. The boy ran down the hill at break-neck speed, nearly tumbling head over heels. He reached the wagon at the head of the caravan, gesticulating wildly and shouting words that he couldn't recall learning. The driver of the wagon quickly pulled the horses to a stop and drew the attention of the rest of the gypsies. The minds of the many gypsies overflowed with exclamations about the sorry state of the wandering boy. The mass of wild thoughts overwhelmed the boy's mind, and the already exhausted and malnourished boy fell unconscious.
He woke up in a bed in one of the wagons, feeling its movement beneath him. A cheerful Romanie woman greeted him with a bowl of steaming rabbit stew, and offered it to him. As the boy began to eat ravenously, the thoughts of the older woman flowed into his mind, and he saw her long history. She had immigrated here as a young and beautiful woman, already married to her husband. She was the mother of many children, and one of the more eminent women of this caravan. The young boy's head rushed with blood, and he got very dizzy, pulling out of the old woman's mind with difficulty. He managed to block out her thoughts as she began to speak.
"Do you like the stew, boy? It's jack-rabbit. I thought it fitting, the way you loped down that hill. What's your name, boy?"
The boy could only shake his head, having no recollection of his name.
"You don't remember anything? Not your home? Your family?"
The boy shook his head again.
"Well, family is everything to us. Home is where your family is. And if you don't have a family, I guess you'll be joining ours. I can't leave a boy like you on the side of the road, but you'll need a name." The old woman thought for a moment. "The Africans tell stories of a wandering spirit who comes to their tribes in time of need."
The boy heard the word echo in her mind. He said it out loud reflexively, "Hare."
The woman looked at him with a curious glint. "Looks like I chose well. I'll call you Jack Hare."
True to the myth, the Romanie caravan that had found Jack was going through a rough time. They made their living as a troupe of fortune tellers traveling from town to town in the rural english countryside, but business had been slow. After discovering that Jack possessed what she called "the inner eye," Jacks adoptive mother recruited him as the troupe's main source of income.
And so it went for several years. The Caravan continued meandering around the British Isle, and Jack Hare became a well known gypsy fortune teller. He quickly learned to quiet the insistent din of his family's thoughts, and as he grew, so did his abilities.
Around his fourth year with the caravan, he began to be offered contracts with traveling circuses. They offered him exorbitant sums of money to leave the caravan. But Jack refused, stalwartly maintaining that family was more important than money. But it soon became very clear that most of the members of the caravan still saw him as an outsider, though his mother rebuked them any time anyone mentioned it. "He keeps this caravan afloat!" she would say. "He does more for the family than any of you!"
But the other family members never really saw it that way. When the time came for the young romanie man to find a wife, none of the families were willing to give him their daughter. In his despair, Jack began to drink.
One night as the caravan was camped outside London, Jack became incredibly intoxicated at dinner. Tired of the other family members minimizing his contributions, he began using his ability, pulling secrets out of the minds of those around him. He accused them all of their misdeeds, reminding them all of their own disregard of the family's wellbeing. In the process of this debacle, Jack insulted the head of the family. The man had until then viewed Jack with a benevolent eye, but the insults slurred at him by the drunken teen caused him to cast the boy out of the caravan.
When the Caravan left the next morning, Jack said his goodbyes to his teary mother as the wagons pulled away. The young man then hiked his way into London proper, sleeping once again under the unforgiving stars.
He began living by his wits, which were considerable. He discovered that in addition to being able to discern the thoughts and memories of others, he could also change them, or insert his own. He could make them see things, or persuade them to do things that he wanted.Having discovered this, Jack had begun to live a very comfortable life as a grifter. Until Pantheon found him.
They arranged for his visa and travel, and he came to the school as a student at the approximate age of sixteen. He did fairly well in his classes, despite his growing reputation as a prankster and general ne'erdowell. Upon graduating from the Academy, he recieved a masters in Education from a prestigious Ivy League University, his powers helping him along in that track. Having recieved his degree, he has returned to Pantheon to teach.
CONNECTION TO THE MYTH ' '
-The mythology surrounding Loki's parentage is somewhat nebulous, and no-one can quite agree on where he comes from. When Jack's ability manifested, all memory of his former life was erased, making it impossible to know anything about his origins.
-Loki worked very hard to prove his worth to his "adopted family," the Aesir, but they never truly accepted him, and cast him out. The Romanie clan that adopted Jack treated him much the same.
-Loki had a habit of getting drunk and "flyting," or engaging in a contest of insults, with the Aesir. Jack was cast out of the caravan for doing just this.
-Loki was always aware of hidden truths. Jack's ability makes it virtually impossible to keep secrets from him.
-Loki was never truly accepted anywhere. He was always the outsider. Jack is much the same.
